No one can succeed in any endeavor that they don’t like.
If you don’t love what you’re doing, then don’t do it.
Your chances of success are directly proportional to the degree of pleasure you derive from what you do.
Do something that you have deep personal interest in.
Do something you’d enjoy spending twelve to fifteen hours a day working at, and the rest of the time thinking about.
Don’t set compensation of your goal. Find work you like and the compensation will follow.
Work is not your punishment. Its your reward, your strength, your pleasure. Real success is achieved when you like what you do.
When your vocation becomes your vacation, you will never work another day in your life.

I’ve heard this from so many people. Whenever you meet someone that truly loves what they do on the day to day it is like meeting a walking and talking inspiration. I’m glad that you posted this because people need to understand that when you truly love what you do it doesn’t feel like work. People who work at what they love don’t even call it work!!!
YES!
Your comment really makes me smile. I totally agree more people have to see this. You should not hate your job. But mind you a lot of people focus on the risk involved in quitting their day job (with probably good pay) and starting from nothing and doing what they love for work.
Hello Peter
You are a very inspiring person. I like your website.
I can’t get rid of my fears like that. I am also afraid of heights. I admire you for having the courage to challenge your fears.
Sounds like you have lived a busy life, and you didn’t waste it away. You have accomplished.
I wish you all the best of success online.
Michelle
Michelle,
Thank you for kind complements!
I believe everyone can face fears to a certain extent. I try not to use the word “can’t” as its a very limiting word. It like when they say you should “think outside the box”. Well you should be inside a box in the first place! lol we are not a cat! The universe offers limitless potential! Think of that and one day you may be able to face some or maybe even all your fears! =) Its no easy task believe me! But when you do and you win over the fear…it feels SO DARN GOOD!
I wish you all the best as well! Thanks again,
Petey
I’ve been having some motivation issues with my website recently and have been questioning whether my heart is in it because I’m passionate about what I’m doing or because I want to be able to become financially free. I think it takes a balance between the two for me because without the motivation of earning an income it would be a lot harder for me to continue moving forward at full speed, even though I am passionate about what I am doing.
Nate,
I totally understand where you are coming from. I’ve too been there. Problem is sometimes we lose focus on today, even though we absolutely love what we do! We tend at times to forget to live in the moment rather than living in our dream. We lose focus and motivation because we are so fixated on what has yet to come that we can not complete the tasks of today. Patience is a virtue.
The easiest way is to take a step back. Take a few deep breaths. We know the ultimate goal is financial freedom. So I’m in no way a professional therapist or anything. But starting a list of mini goals, kind of like steps of where you want to go. Will get you in the right direction. As you complete these mini goals you will see that motivation comes back.
Sometimes all we need is a little feeling of accomplishment no matter how small it is!

I just love that little quote! It is actually the second time I came across it today, so I think the Universe is trying to tell me something! I must admit, since I got serious about starting a blog and focusing on some passions I had largely hidden from many people in my life for years, I feel happier, more grounded and sure of my way forward in terms of how I want to be earning money and how I want to contribute to the world. I might print out this quote and put it on my wall to remind me when I feel moments of doubt about what I am doing. π
Hi Liz,
I am so happy that I was able to share this with you. I wish I knew who actually wrote it because they deserve the credit due for how many people it touches.
It’s nice to hear you are following some passions of yours! Maybe the universe is hinting something to you. Follow your gut instincts and minds intuition!
This is definitely something to have printed and posted on a wall of motivation or a dream board!
Pete
I can see where you are coming from, and I do agree with you on that if you dislike what you are doing you can never succeed in it. The website isn’t difficult to look at, and reading your writing some how makes me not really believe you have any personal experience in the matter of disliking a job. It dosn’t encourage me fully in trying to find a better path or questioning myself if this is the correct path I could be on. I do think you have some great ideas and a great start though. Keep up the good work.
-Noble
Noble,
I can assure you I have worked in many jobs that I disliked. Because I felt like I had to because of bills and student loans. I worked one of the hardest, dirtiest and dangerous jobs in the world for 10 years. I started in 2001 on a dirty old drilling rig. As a lease hand. Basically everyone’s b**ch. Clean this, do that, go get this, do the jobs that no one else wants to do. Cause as we all know, sh*t slides downhill and as the bottom of the totem pole you better have a big shovel. As life progressed I left the drilling rigs after hating a position I was stuck in for 4 years. I got promoted to driller and after I had wanted it for so long, the thrill was gone. I was bitter. The economy was mainly to blame back in 2008-2009 as to why I did not get promoted. Too many other drillers and rig managers where jobless so we would rotate them through. We would have drillers as roughnecks and lease hands, with no new hires in site.
I decided I did not want to be a baby sitter anymore. So i looked for a change. I am still in oil and gas. I consult on the directional drilling side of things. Its very challenging and fun. Lots of math and every new well, even if 10 feet apart is a completely new challenge from the last. It’s been 6 years of doing this type of work in the oil and gas industry. I get a comfy shack and a bunch of computers, and really expensive tools to play with. Right up my alley and the pay is phenomenal considering the amount of “work” I actually do.
Whats the downside? I work away from home 20 to 30 days at a time. So I am actively seeking other streams of income so that I can be home more. I am not into sitting in an office and being a paper jocky (manager/drilling supervisor/engineer).
That’s where real estate investing, stock investments, internet marketing and network marketing come into play. I’m looking for motivation and start a new chapter. Hope this all give you a better insight into how much experience I really do have. =)
Take care,
Petey
I hear you. I am though doing something that I don’t love, but I am doing something about this. Too many times when you ask people how was work and they reply, yeah work is work, or whatever. You wonder why you ask. Do something that you love people. Do something that interests you and you will live for the day.
I totally agree.
“Work is work.” Typical response from those who are doing it because they feel like they have to, apposed to doing it because they love it.
Ever ask someone how work was, and they were filled with absolute excitement?
I have. It really opened my eyes.
Like any business it was a slow and steady start for them. Now they are flourishing.
Good luck out there!
Petey
your niche is great. and your posts on Motivation I really like. Everybody needs to be lifted up some day or another. and keeping people aware of the scams out there is great too. having a trusted person tell you about them is always much appreciated.
Great site π
Good luck and have great days
Thank you for the kind remarks Natalie!
Feel free to drop by any time, any questions feel free to ask!
Petey
I absolutely love and 100 percent agree with your opinion in this article. I wish you would have written more about your own experiences that lead you to having this philosophy. I have always strongly believed that in order to be successful you have to be passionate about what you are. the last sentence in this post is the perfect quote. Great post!
Stevie,
I think one day I will write about my own experiences. But I may have to save that for another site. Life can be difficult at times. Right now I am doing things I truly enjoy but not quite doing what I actually love! In due time though I will get there.
Thanks for the kind words!
Petey
I could not agree more with you, their are so many scams that are out there that are trying to take our hard earn money. It dose not matter how we my want to earn that extra income. Many have gotten ahead of themselves and end up paying the price sad to say. Your website looks great keep up the good work.
Thanks Norman!
